ACADEMIC EXCHANGE PROGRAM BETWEEN CUTS AND THE GROUP OF STUDENTS LED BY PROF. GREG TUKE OF UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON-BOTHELL
In continuation to the Social Media for Global Change program between scholars and students of CUTS and other western Universities, a group of students led by Prof. Greg Tuke (University of Washington-Bothell) visited the University from 2-6 September 2017. On their request Prof. L. N. Shastri, Prof. Wangchuk Dorje Negi, Prof. Jampa Samten (Tibetan History), Dr. Tashi Tsering (S), Dr karma Sonam Palmo delivered lectures to the visiting students on various aspects of Buddhism and contemporary world to sharpen their understanding of core concepts of Buddhism such as Interdependent Origination, Four Noble truths, Essence of Buddhist Practice, Women in Buddhism and other areas like History of CUTS and history of Buddhism in Tibet etc. A meeting with the, CUTS students who regularly participating in the Social Media for Global Change program was also organized with the visiting students to exchange and share their knowledge and experiences on various topics on global issues.
A group of selected students of CUTS led by Dr Tashi Tsering (S) is regularly participating in the Social Media for Global Change program online with the students of Washington University. Keeping in view the importance of such academic exercise among students and scholars of different countries having entirely different social, cultural and academic background Prof. Greg Tuke visited the CUTS with a group of his selected students. The program provided excellent opportunity for the scholars and students of CUTS to understand about the state and status of western students and also for visiting students to learn and experience the academic ambience of CUTS in real sense.
At last day of the program Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Geshe Ngwang Samten given a lecture and discussed on the concept of mind and mind training in Buddhism in the committee room of the Kamalsheel Bhavan.
The students group visited the Shantarakshita Library and other academic departments of the University. A visit to Dhammekh Stupa Sarnath was also organized to narrate the history of Buddhism in the Buddhist Sites at Sarnath.
